The Journey So Far

Campaign History

Four years ago Gill St. Bernard’s School Board of Trustees approved a $15 million comprehensive campaign. It would be the largest campaign goal for GSB (to date) but a necessary challenge welcomed by the leadership of the school. It would solidify the direction and mission of the school for generations to come.

The campaign goals were:

  • Continue to grow the annual fund ultimately achieving $1 million per year, and building a core alumni base for the future
  • Continue to increase the school’s endowment, especially for need-based financial aid
  • Build an addition to Founders Hall to increase dining space and update the kitchen
  • Convert the primary outdoor playing field to an artificial turf surface
  • Build a Performing Arts and Community Center

Over the course of the first three years since establishing the campaign, we have successfully raised funds for our endowment, we continue to increase our annual fund and we completed the addition to Founders and created a beautiful turf field. In addition, other projects were added: new office space for parent and alumni relations; a middle school library/MakerSpace; additional fine arts studios. Finally, with unprecedented support of a long-time neighbor and friend of the school, Gill recently acquired Home Winds, a 130 acre parcel of land (with several structures) adjacent to campus. Due to the success of the campaign during its first three (+) years, in the spring of 2016 the Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to increase the overall goal of the campaign to $20M.

Gill St. Bernard’s School, long known for its exemplary theater program, recently broke ground on a new Performing Arts and Community Center (PACC) as part of the final phase of the Delivering the Future comprehensive campaign. The new PACC will house performing arts productions, fine arts showcases, and musical performances representing all three school divisions. In addition to the 450-seat theater, the PACC will include classroom space and an expansive lobby. The GSB theater program is arguably among the finest in the state with consistent numerous nominations for the Paper Mill Playhouse Awards. This recognition program, designed to identify and honor individuals and programs for Spring Musical performances, is open to every school in New Jersey.  In the last decade our stellar program has garnered two Best Shows, a Best Actor and Best Actress as well as multiple other awards for make-up, music, and costume design.

Whether in the classroom, during performances or reaching out to the ever-shrinking world, Gill St. Bernard’s strives to offer a challenging yet balanced approach to learning and life. We know our students are prepared for higher education and the challenges of life ahead, and this new facility helps our community step forward and face all that is to come.
